The Atlantic Council, Africa Center
The Atlantic Council's Africa Center hosted a High-Level International Summit on the African Creative and Cultural Industries. I was invited to speak as a panelist. The high-level summit was hosted by Ambassador Rama Yade. Additional panel speakers included Cyril Ramaphosa (President of South Africa), Nana Addo-Akufo (President of Ghana), Mia Amor Mottley (Prime Minister, Barbados), Felix Tshisekedi (President of Democratic Republic of the Congo), in addition to high profile artists, filmmakers, and government officials, from Africa, the Diaspora, the African Union, among others. The summit aired online and at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Washington, DC, October 15.
My discussion was on the importance of African dance and its history to the current cultures and societies of Africa and her Diaspora.
